A PROMISING teenage football star has tragically been shot dead as tributes pour in for the “beloved teammate and friend”.
Baylor defensive lineman Alex Foster, 18, was killed in a shooting in Greenville, Mississippi early on Wednesday morning.

The teen was rushed to hospital before being pronounced dead by Delta Health Center staff just 35 minutes later, Greenville Police said.
Foster was in his second year with the Bears and was regarded as a key player for the team going forwards.
Baylor paid tribute to the young star in a message from athletic director Mack Rhodes and head football coach Dave Aranda.
A statement from the duo said: “We are heartbroken by the unexpected passing of Alex Foster, a beloved teammate, friend, and a cherished part of the Baylor Family.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with Alex’s family and all those who loved him. In this time of deep sorrow, we draw strength from our faith and the unwavering love of the Baylor community.
“Our immediate focus is on supporting Alex’s family and his teammates through this devastating loss. Alex’s memory will forever be a part of Baylor University.”
The 6-foot-5 and 292 pound teen redshirted his freshman season at Baylor in 2024.
He was most recently seen participating in the Bears’ spring workouts last month.
Foster played high school football for St. Joseph Catholic-Greenville, and was the number 152 recruit overall in the nation by On3.
St. Joseph head coach John Baker revealed that Foster was due to return to Waco, Texas over the weekend to join up with the Baylor squad.
Baker added: “He was just a great guy. Real quiet, soft-spoken guy, you know.
“Had his head on right and was wanting to make it out. He was a good dude, man.”
It comes just over a week after the footballing world was left saddened by the passing of Indianapolis Colts owner and CEO Jim Irsay.
Jim died peacefully in his sleep at the age of 65, his beloved team announced.
They added in a statement: “Jim’s dedication and passion for the Indianapolis Colts in addition to his generosity, commitment to the community, and most importantly, his love for his family were unsurpassed.”
