A POPULAR fast-food chain known for their burgers has already opened up 74 new restaurants in 2025 – despite axing over 140 stores just months ago.
Wendy’s, who often boasts their food tastes “better than McDonald’s“, has now vowed they are “just getting started” with their global expansion.

In America, 18 states have welcomed in a new restaurant in a move described by company President Abigail Pringle as “more exciting than ever”.
Across the globe, stores have constantly opened up in Canada, Mexico, Australia and in several markets in Asia, Africa and the Middle East.
The brand described the recent opening sprees as being done through “data-driven insights”.
They added: “We have made inform strategic investments in high-potential markets, we’re on a mission to bring Wendy’s fresh, famous food to more customers across the country.”
All the new openings and any future developments will feature Wendy’s latest technologies and design points.
These include digital menu boards, self-order kiosks and a digital ordering assistant known as Wendy’s FreshAi.
Redesigned kitchens will also enhance maneuverability to improve output capacity by nearly 50 per cent.
Tatiana Lambert, Vice President and US Chief Development Officer said: “This quarter’s development progress is a testament to the dedication and drive from our development teams and restaurant operators.
“As we continue to grow across the US, we are looking for excellent partners who share our commitment to delivering on our brand promise: Fresh, Famous Food, Made Right, For You.”
Despite the positive news for Wendy’s, they did suffer a number of major closures in 2024.
The brand announced that it is closing 140 locations at the end of last year.
These locations were described as “underperforming” locations.
The company did plan on replacing the “outdated” stores with more profitable locations, CFO Gunther Plosch said.
Wendy’s did not say exactly which locations would be shut down but executives did say they would be “spread out geographically both in the U.S. and globally,” according to USA Today.
And the changes continue to roll in at Wendy’s after they introduced its new thin mint Frostys to celebrate National Girl Scout Cookie Weekend.
They have also confirmed plans to launch a new item with another fan-favorite brand.
Wendy’s let fans in on the date of the new Frosty Fusions, which allow you to add extra toppings to Frosty Swirls.
The Frosty Fusions allow you to choose your flavor and what sauce comes with it, once again out of brownie, caramel and strawberry.
Now, the dining chain has also announced a new menu item coming in June that is sure to get fans heated up for the summer season.
Wendy’s is “going wild” with a brand new Takis Meal, bringing spice and seasoning to its dining experience.
It was announced on Facebook on Friday and will include Takis Fuego Chicken Sandwich and new Fuego Fries.
Elsewhere, Burger King has mocked McDonald’s and Wendy’s in a blunt five-word warning.
It comes as a new fast-food survey has revealed the top 25 burger chains in the US.
America’s favorite burger chain, according to 119,000 Yelp reviews, is California-based In-N-Out Burger.
The Habit Burger Grill came in second place, with Shake Shack in third place, followed by Culver’s (4th) and Islands Restaurants in fifth place.
Food & Wine reported today that McDonald’s was ranked in the 17th spot, while Burger King was ranked 19th. Wendy’s was placed 22nd.
