Andrew Gutierrez, 31, of San Jose, was arrested and booked April 29 on suspicion of possessing child sexual abuse material, authorities said. Santa Clara County records show he had not been charged as of Wednesday. He was not in custody, according to jail records.

Gutierrez attracted police suspicion in February when the SJPD Internet Crimes Against Children task force and Child Exploitation Detail, while conducting an investigation using an unspecified file-sharing platform, discovered a man “observed downloading and distributing over 600 images of child sexual abuse material.”

Detectives later linked the activity to Gutierrez, and determined that he was an active paramedic in the county. Police did not disclose what ambulance provider employed him; a message to the county’s primary provider was not immediately returned.

On the day of his arrest, police said they served a search warrant at Gutierrez’s home and confiscated evidence linking him to the images.
