RCB has won a title in WPL 2024, but the men’s team is yet to open their account in the 18 editions of the IPL. But the 2025 season has been different, where batters and bowlers have shone alike, and instilled a lot of confidence in the fans; “this year the cup is ours”. Right from Rajat Patidar’s refreshing leadership, to Virat Kohli — the perennial run machine, Krunal Pandya’s all-round brilliance, and even Jitesh Sharma’s best season — a lot of factors have taken them into the Qualifier 1 against PBKS.
But this is where it gets serious, and the time might have just come — where the seasoned Virat Kohli, Patidar and all others must be feeling the heat. Close to two decades, three final appearances and three losses — that would have only increased butterflies in the stomach. InsideSport takes a look at the strengths and weakness of RCB at the moment, going into the playoffs.
What’s Working for RCB
Virat Kohli & Phil Salt going great guns: The Indian legend has scored 602 runs in 13 matches, including eight fifties, What else do you expect from a player. Plus he has gotten the support of Salt, who has 331 runs in 11 matches. Not the best record, but still good enough for Kohli, to go about his business with ease.
Jitesh Sharma the new finisher: To score 85 from 33 deliveries, while chasing in excess of 230, you’re definitely in excellent form. And that is what Jitesh Sharma showed, while coming into the playoffs. So, his form is a big plus for the team.
Krunal magic working, Josh Hazlewood back: A best of 73 with the bat, and then 15 wickets in 13 matches. Krunal Pandya has not only revived his career, but also his teams. Then RCB will have their best bowler back — Hazlewood, who has picked up 18 wickets in 10 matches. Another positive.
This Goes Against Bengaluru
The pressure of expectations: They might have the in-form players, but it takes only one bad game to be knocked out. RCB would feel the pressure of fans’ expectations, to get home their first-ever trophy.
Tim David injury: The gigantic Tim David could be injured at the worst possible moment for his team. They are in contention for a finals berth, but it is not clear if he can play the next match or not. He was the team’s dedicated finisher.
Rajat Patidar form and injury: Although the skipper played well in few matches, but till now, he has only accumulated 271 runs at an average of 22. He also had a finger injury, and has been playing the last few matches as an impact sub.
Out of form Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yash Dayal: In the last three matches, Bhuvi has only three wickets giving away 144 runs. Yash Dayal has three wickets in last five matches. Plus, Hazle is coming back after an injury. So, fast bowling will be a concern.
