His daily routine included a two-hour morning strength session, followed by boxing training at midday and then a conditioning workout in the late afternoon.
Holyfield repeated this arduous process six days a week en route to becoming a two-weight undisputed champion at cruiserweight and heavyweight.
Along the way, Holyfield beat Riddick Bowe, Larry Holmes, George Foreman, Michael Moorer, Ray Mercer, and Mike Tyson (twice).
So resilient was his mindset that he rebounded to become a four-time heavyweight champion in the face of several setbacks.
Holyfield eventually hung up his gloves in 2011 with a stoppage win over Brian Nielsen at 48 years old.
Holyfield achieved undisputed supremacy at both cruiserweight and heavyweightGettyHowever, he did return to the ring 10 years later to box former UFC light heavyweight champion Vitor Belfort in an exhibition bout.
