On Sunday at the Texas Capitol, lawmakers paused for a moment of silence to honor Farias.
According to State Rep. Erin Zwiener, who represents San Marcos and parts of Hays County, Farias had just graduated from San Marcos High School.
"There was a high school graduation party held by some graduating San Marcos High School seniors, and an unknown person fired a gun at that party and killed a recent graduate. Andrew Farias, there's still not a lot of details about the incident, so I won't go into that, but what I will say is that Andrew was part of a tight-knit family. He was a mentor to his younger siblings and his younger cousins. He played for the San Marcos High School Rattlers football team, and he was scheduled to start at Texas State University in August, where he hoped to pursue a degree in construction engineering," Zweiner said Sunday.
"All of the community of San Marcos is grieving for this young man right now, and I ask you to take a moment with me to honor his too-short life and to think of his family and loved ones and our community members," she added before lawmakers held a moment of silence.
A vigil is planned in Farias’ honor. According to a post on the San Marcos Rattler Football Facebook page, it will be held at 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Toyota Rattler Stadium. The event is being hosted by the team chaplain.
