Steve Sarkisian disputes reports that Texas will spend nearly $40 million on 2025 roster ...Middle East

News by : (SATURDAY DOWN SOUTH) -

Steve Sarkisian is well aware of reports that Texas is set to spend anywhere between $35 to $40 million as it looks to bring home the program’s first national championship since 2005.

That $35 to $40 million number came from The Houston Chronicle‘s Kirk Bohls in April, with the amount factoring in projected revenue sharing and payouts from the university’s NIL collective, the Texas One Club.

Sarkisian, at the SEC‘s spring meetings in Destin on Tuesday, pushed back on the reports.

“What’s frustrating on that was it was a little bit of irresponsible reporting,” the Longhorns head coach said on SiriusXM. “One anonymous source said that’s what our roster was. I wish I had $40 million on our roster. We’d be a little bit better team than we are.”

That’s not to say Texas is scraping the barrel, though.

“We’re fortunate. Don’t get me wrong. We’ve got great support. Chris Del Conte, our athletic director, does a fantastic job on our donors,” Sarkisian said. “Hey, people are excited. We’ve been to the CFP 2 years in a row. We’ve had, shoot, I don’t know, 20-something guys drafted in the past 2 years. So it’s been great. It’s been a great run.”

The Longhorns are coming off back-to-back College Football Playoff semifinal appearances, falling to Washington in 2023 and Ohio State in 2024.
