The Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA) has warned of a heatwave across the country on Monday due to a hot air mass.
Weather maps predict that the heat wave will break on the northwestern sector near the cities of Salloum and Marsa Matrouh, while the hot air mass will continue to dominate the cities of Lower Egypt, Cairo, the Suez Canal cities, Sinai Peninsula, and Upper Egypt.
The heat wave will subside in the cities of the North Coast and the northern Delta starting Monday afternoon.
By evening, the heat wave will subside in the capital, Cairo, northern Upper Egypt, and Suez Canal cities.
The hot air mass will continue to dominate Upper Egypt cities until Tuesday afternoon.
The EMA also expects active surface winds to stir up sand and dust in various areas of the northern half of the country, leading to poor visibility in some governorates and disturbances in the Mediterranean Sea.
Expected temperatures on Monday:
Matrouh: 24C Alexandria: 26C Hurghada: 38C Cairo and Sharm El-Sheikh: 40C Luxor and Aswan: 43C
Tips to stay safe from the heat
1- The elderly and those with diabetes, heart disease, and high blood pressure should stay in cool, well-ventilated areas.
2- Avoid prolonged sun exposure to protect against the risk of sunburn and skin cancer, especially from 11 am to four pm, when ultraviolet rays are most harmful.
3- Try to carry sunscreen, a wide-brimmed hat or rely on sunshade.
4- Drink plenty of fresh, chilled juices and water to keep hydrated, but avoid carbonated drinks as they increase thirst and dehydration.
5- Wash your face and head after prolonged sun exposure.
6- Wear loose, cotton clothing, preferably in light colors, to avoid absorbing the sun’s rays.
