Homeowners locked in decades-long battle with neighbors over cars blocking road – even when they’re towed they reappear ...Middle East

A GROUP of fed-up homeowners say they have been fighting the same road-blocking problem for decades, and it keeps coming back no matter how many times they call the tow trucks.

Junked-up cars have been clogging their narrow street, with residents claiming it’s all tied to illegal car repair businesses hiding in plain sight.

The mess is unfolding on Adkins Road in northwest Atlanta.

Locals claimed to FOX local affiliate WAGA-TV that two homes have been running auto shops without a license for years, creating safety issues and dragging down their property values.

Despite dozens of complaints, visits from police and code enforcement, and even city officials showing up with clipboards, the problem hasn’t gone away.

The neighborhood looked like a full-blown auto shop on the residential street, with oil-stained pavement, loose hoses, and car parts scattered across the yard, one said.

One house even had a sign advertising a mobile auto repair service.

Records obtained by the news outlet show repeated complaints filed in the city’s code enforcement system, many citing junked vehicles and cars blocking the road.

Neighbors say the issues only temporarily disappear when the city responds and tows the vehicles but the cars come right back.

“When they complain, police come out and tow the cars,” said longtime homeowner Selena Cullins. “But they always reappear.”

Some say it’s not just about the view – it’s a safety nightmare.

“I have almost had three accidents,” said Eunice Guilford, who’s lived on the street since 1961.

“There’s a curve right there, and you can’t see around it when cars are parked on both sides.”

“They got people coming over there back and forth, back and forth. They even have one of those tow trucks,” Cullins added.

“They will come out and pull cars and we’ll be so happy. Then the next weekend, they’re back, back the same way,” another resident added.

According to the report, city planning staff and police were seen at one of the properties for over 45 minutes.

Five steps for restoring a car

Restoring a car can be a massive undertaking. Here's a simpler way to think about the process as a whole:

Plan This includes setting a budget, preparing a work area, researching parts, and establishing a timeline to get the work done. Strip the vehicle This involves disassembling the vehicle and assessing the condition of the parts being removed. Bodywork This means stripping the paint and repairing any rust and dents, followed by repainting. Engine restoration This involves restoring a car’s power – including engine repairs. Rebuild After reassembling and detailing the car, all that’s left is to take it for a test drive.

Some residents believe the lack of progress may be tied to where they live.

“I complained about it several times,” one neighbor said.

“I guess because it is a Black neighborhood y’all don’t care.”

Frederick Duncan, who lives at one of the homes under fire, pushed back on the accusations.

“I own every car that’s in the yard,” Duncan said. “I have a title to every car.”

He admitted to getting warnings but denied fixing cars there.

“I’m not operating a car repair shop at that location,” he said.

However, the sign outside the home advertises a business called “WILLIE & BATMAN” auto repair.

But according to the Better Business Bureau, the shop is not BBB-accredited.

Duncan said his actual business is in Douglasville, but refused to say the name of it.

The City of Atlanta didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment by The U.S. Sun.
