Aliso Niguel’s Jaslene Massey leads OC qualifiers for CIF State track meet ...Middle East

Aliso Niguel junior Jaslene Massey won the shot put and the discus at the CIF Southern Section Masters Meet to qualify for both events in the CIF State Championships.

The CIF State meet is Friday and Saturday, May 30-31, at Buchanan High in Clovis.

Massey won the discus with a throw of 165 feet, 6 inches, the fourth-best mark in county history, at Moorpark High School. She later finished first in the shot put with her day’s best of 49-7.5.

Massey has California’s leading mark of 50-7 this season which she established at the Orange County Championships at Mission Viejo High.

Madison Gallacher of Canyon and Abbey Reichard of Portola also qualified for the state meet in the discus.

Dana Hills senior distance ace Evan Noonan won the 3,200 in 8 minutes, 55.76 seconds. That is the best time in Orange County this season.

In the girls 3,200, Holly Barker of Trabuco Hills and Summer Wilson of Irvine qualified for the state meet.

Servite displayed the depth of its roster of sprinters by speeding to victory in the boys 4×100 with another scintillating time. The Friars team of sophomores Robert Gardner and Benjamin Harris and freshmen Jaelen Hunter and Jorden Wells went 40.40 seconds, the second-fastest time in Orange County history. They set the record with a slightly different foursome earlier this season with a time of 40.00.

Hunter won the 400 in 46.91. Hunter is the county leader at 46.32 that he ran at the Trinity League finals.

Harris finished the 100 in 10.44 for third place, just behind Santa Margarita’s Leo Francis, who ran a personal-best 10.43. Demare Dezeurn of Bishop Alemany was first at 10.35.

Francis also made it to the state meet in the 200.

Sophomore Blaise Burwell is going to the state meet, having qualified in the 110 hurdles.

The Mater Dei and Trabuco Hills girls 4×100 relay teams qualified for the CIF State Championships.

Northwood, Santa Margarita and Servite qualified in the 4×400 boys relay. The JSerra, Rosary, Santa Margarita and Trabuco Hills teams qualified in the girls 4×400 relay.

Rosary’s Justine Wilson ran the 400 in a county-leading 54.79 to finish third and advance to the state meet.

Four county athletes qualified for the CIF State meet in the girls 1,600: Annie Ivarsson of Dana Hills, Evanline Williams of Trabuco Hills, Reese Holley of JSerra and Carol Dye of San Juan Hills. Ivarsson finished third at 4:47.17, which is the best time in Orange County this season.

Three county girls qualified in the 800 led by JSerra’s Anne Elise Packard, who was Saturday’s winner in 2:09.55. Her JSerra teammate, Chloe Elbaz, was fourth and Yorba Linda’s Isabella Wroblewski finished fifth to qualify for the state meet.

JSerra’s Aiden Morales was third in the 800 (1:52.38). San Clemente sophomore Mattheus Dos Santos, who has come on strong in recent weeks, finished seventh to qualify for the state meet.

The county athletes who qualified for the state meet in the boys 1,600 were Bradley Arrey of JSerra, Max Douglass of Corona del Mar, Dylan Jubak of Trabuco Hills and Aidan Antonio of Woodbridge.

Jett Gary of Beckman ran the 300 hurdles in a personal-best 38.09 to qualify for the state meet. Tesoro’s Peyton Brown also is going to the stat meet for the 300 hurdles.

Brady Furr of Santa Margarita finished first in the pole vault with a clearance of 16 feet, 2 inches. Furr has the county-leading mark of 16-5 this season. Garrett Higgins of Trabuco Hills also is going to the state meet in the pole vault.

Mater Dei’s Brandon Gorski cleared 6 feet, 6 inches in the high jump, good enough for a spot in the state meet.

Among the county’s paralympics athletes headed for the CIF State meet is Luzila Ashley-Castillo of Woodbridge, who will compete in the 100 and the 400.

Athletes who did not automatically qualify Saturday can get to the CIF State Championship as at-large entries if their times and marks meet the at-large standards for the state meet.
