The Diamond Heels scored two runs in the top of the ninth inning on their way to a 7-5 victory against No. 2 seed Florida State in the ACC Tournament semifinals Saturday in Durham. UNC will face No. 5 Clemson in the championship game Sunday at 12 p.m.
A ringing single up the middle from Kane Kepley did the job for Carolina, driving in Alex Madera and Perry Hargett to give UNC the lead. It capped off a back-and-forth game, one which saw each team score in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. But Aidan Haugh and Walker McDuffie combined to shut down the Seminole bats across the final three frames, clinching the victory for UNC.
The Diamond Heels are now 41-12 this season and are 3-1 against Florida State. UNC will aim for its first ACC Tournament title since 2022 when it faces Clemson Sunday.
