Racing Bulls duo charges into Monaco spotlight with stunning FP2 ...Middle East

Sport by : (F1 News) -

Racing Bulls emerged as an unexpected force in Friday’s second practice in Monaco, with Liam Lawson and Isack Hadjar defying expectations by securing remarkable fifth and sixth places in the session, trailing only Ferrari and McLaren’s titans.

For Lawson in particular, it was a breakthrough day that saw the Kiwi display both calm composure and competitive fire on his first Monaco Grand Prix weekend in Formula 1 machinery.

While Hadjar endured several brushes with Monaco’s unforgiving barriers, the pair’s pace signaled a team on the rise, ready to challenge F1’s top midfield runners.

Lawson Finds His Rhythm on a Dream Circuit

“It’s a positive day, for sure,” said Lawson, reflecting on a productive Friday. “It’s one of those tracks… like compared to most tracks where you are just building up through the whole weekend.

“We made a good step from the morning, but naturally tomorrow everyone is going to keep building again and we have to keep chasing that, so we will keep working on [it].

“We made a lot of changes today to be honest, and we will basically chase it again tomorrow and then see, but yeah, a positive day.”

Lawson, who previously raced at Monaco in Formula 2, couldn’t hide his enthusiasm for tackling the legendary circuit in a Formula 1 car.

“It’s better in an F1 car. I’ve done it in F2 before… even though it’s faster in an F1 car, it’s more compliant, it’s obviously a nicer car, so it’s really, really fun.

“It’s very special to be able to do this here, but tomorrow is the important day, so we will focus on making another step in FP3 and try to put ourselves in a good place for quali.”

His measured approach and rapid adaptation to the unforgiving streets of Monte Carlo signal a driver coming into his own, with qualifying now firmly in his sights.

Hadjar Overcomes Setbacks to Join the Front-Runners

While Lawson delivered consistency and speed, teammate Isack Hadjar experienced a wilder ride en route to his impressive sixth-place finish.

The French rookie endured two separate incidents – first at the Nouvelle Chicane and later at Sainte Devote – but still emerged at the end of the day with a time that placed him just behind Lawson and well within the upper echelons of the FP2 standings.

“It was really intense for me,” Hadjar admitted, reflecting on a hectic day that tested both his nerve and his car.

“Free Practice around Monaco is a lot more busy than usual with the traffic. I enjoyed it, but at the same time it was really hard, you know.

“I had a tricky day, brushing the walls, playing with the limits. FP2 got me scared because at some point I thought that was it, but I still managed to bring it back.

“The car didn’t really want to, but I forced it to, and we could still have a few laps on the soft.”

Despite the drama, Hadjar’s fighting spirit and the relentless work of the Racing Bulls mechanics helped salvage a crucial run that keeps him firmly in the conversation heading into Saturday.

“I’m sorry a bit for them to add a bit of work, but they are really sharp – they did amazing today,” he added in praise of his pit crew.

With both drivers inside the top six, Racing Bulls have sent a clear signal to the paddock: they’re not simply making up the numbers in Monaco.

Lawson’s smooth progression and Hadjar’s resilience in the face of adversity highlight a team on the rise and drivers with the grit and talent to thrive in Formula 1’s most demanding environment.

Saturday qualifying promises to be a blockbuster – and a muc bigger test for the young guns. But Racing Bulls have already shown they’re ready to charge.
