Freddie Mercury, frontman for the group Queen, is the subject of a new biography from author Lesley-Ann Jones called Love, Freddie. Inside, there is a handwritten letter detailing how Mercury had an affair with the wife of one of his friends in 1976, and she later gave birth to their daughter, according to The Daily Mail.
Identified only as "B" in the biography to protect her identity, the daughter is a grown woman with kids of her own practicing medicine in Europe.
“Freddie Mercury was and is my father,” B wrote in the letter. “We had a very close and loving relationship from the moment I was born and throughout the final 15 years of his life.”
The letter makes it clear that B had a relationship with her father — he visited her often and called her all the time.
Jones told The Daily Mail, "My instinct was to doubt everything, but I am absolutely sure she is not a fantasist…No one could have faked all this."
B was raised by her mother and stepfather, but she said Mercury had his own room at their house and she knew from a very young age that he was her biological father.
Jones does have some authority in her field to be a believable source. The British author has written biographies about Paul McCartney, the Rolling Stones, John Lennon, David Bowie, Naomi Campbell and Kylie Minogue. Jones has also written several previous books about Mercury.
The daughter told Jones that her mother died "years ago" and that she wishes to maintain her privacy, writing in another letter in the book, "The life I live with my husband and our family in another country is intensely private. We want things to stay that way. We cherish our peaceful and anonymous life, and we want nothing to disturb it. Nobody needs to know who I am.”
