The band made the announcement on its social media accounts on Friday, May 23, posting the notice, “As John continues his recovery from the stroke he had in February, we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel our summer touring plans. We look forward to playing together before too long, and we thank everyone for their understanding and support.”
The statement was attributed to singer/guitarist Dan Wilson, Munson and drummer Jake Slichter.
Munson suffered a stroke on Feb. 23, according to a GoFundMe account established by a friend of his wife, Penny Munson, on the couple’s behalf.
The GoFundMe account has surpassed its initial goal of $100,000, raising more than $142,200 to date, but it’s still accepting donation on Munson’s behalf.
Earlier this month, there was a benefit concert for the ailing musician called Munson Fest, held at the Fitzgerald Theater in Minneapolis featuring several local notable musicians, including Dan Wilson’s brother Matt Wilson and His Orchestra. Both Wilsons played with Munson in the pre-Semisonic band Trip Shakespeare during the 1980s.
“Love and healing ❤️? from Brazil. ?? Wish you guys the best. X,” wrote one.
“Sending so much love and light to the entire crew,” a third added.
