Jace LaViolette suffered a hand injury during Texas A&M‘s 3-2 win over Auburn in the SEC Tournament on Thursday, shelving him for the remainder of the week in Hoover and putting the remainder of what could be his final season in jeopardy if the Aggies make the NCAA tournmaent.
The Aggies were hardly a shoo-in to make regionals heading into the conference tournament, with the preseason No. 1 team and 2024 College World Series runner-up slumping to a 11-19 record in SEC play. That included being swept in stunning fashion by Missouri in the 2nd-to-last series of the regular season even as the Tigers entered winless in conference action.
After topping Mississippi State, the Aggies received a massive boost to their resume by taking down Auburn, who started Thursday No. 1 in RPI. If they do indeed get to regionals, they could have LaViolette back, according to D1Baseball’s Kendall Rogers.
INJURY NEWS: @AggieBaseball OF Jace LaViolette suffered a fractured fourth metacarpal shaft today, and they were able to put the knuckle back in place. Should the #Aggies continue winning in Hoover, he would be able to return, and hit, next weekend, I’m told. #MLBDraft
— Kendall Rogers (@KendallRogers) May 23, 2025Through 55 games, LaViolette is batting .256 with 18 home runs and 59 RBI, both team highs. The junior is projected as a top 10 pick in several mock drafts if he declares at the end of the season.
First pitch for Texas A&M vs. LSU on Friday is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. ET.
Jace LaViolette could return for NCAA Tournament if Texas A&M advances, per report Saturday Down South.
