Alejandro Garnacho hinted at leaving Manchester United in a furious interview after the club’s Europa League final defeat.
Garnacho was named on the bench as the Red Devils succumbed to a 1-0 defeat to Tottenham on Wednesday night.
Garnacho had to settle for a place on the benchGettyThe Argentine winger replaced Mason Mount in the 71st minute and looked bright as United probed for an equaliser.
But the full-time whistle confirmed a shocking campaign for Ruben Amorim’s side, who are 16th in the Premier League and could not salvage a place in next season’s Champions League.
Speaking afterwards, Garnacho said: “It’s difficult for all of us. This season has been s***.
“We lost the final, we didn’t beat anyone in the league. It’s very difficult.”
He added: “I’ve played every round until I reached the final, but I only played 20 minutes today.
“I’ll enjoy the summer and then we’ll see.”
Before kick-off, the 20-year-old shared two images online shortly before the teams were announced.
The pictures were from his heroics in the FA Cup final and Community Shield in the last 12 months.
Despite there being no caption with the image, the message was clear – and only became louder after the defeat in Bilbao.
Garnacho’s brother Roberto posted on Instagram: “Working as no one else, helping every round, coming from two goals in the last two finals, just to be on the pitch for 19 mins and get thrown under the bus.”

Manager Ruben Amorim chose to start Mount and explained his decision before kick-off.
Amorim said: “I feel Mason Mount, in this moment, gives us a different balance because he’s really good attacking, but also the way he compacts the team – he is one extra midfielder and you know Tottenham put all the full-backs and midfielders inside with a lot of people overloading that space.
“So my thinking was that, to have possession and to have a right foot in that position is really important, to also have speed on the bench because we have Amad on the other side. We need legs to change the game.
“If you look at the team, Casemiro is used to playing these types of games, Bruno is always there, Harry Maguire has played in European games for his national team and knows the pressure.
“The final is a different context, a different game. The beginning of the game is really important – to feel the game – and I think we’re getting better on that.”
Garnacho’s omission may have proved costly for Amorim with United unable to break down the stout Spurs defence.

Speaking after the abject display, Amorim offered to leave Man United without compensation.
“In this moment I am not going to be here defending myself,” the United head coach said. “It’s not my style, I cannot do it. It is really hard for me.
“So, I have nothing to show to the fans and say ‘I’m going to improve because of this’, ‘I had these problems.’ I will not do nothing. So, in this moment it is a little bit of faith. Let’s see.
“I’m always open, if the board and the fans feel that I am not the right guy, I will go in the next day without any conversation about compensation. But I will not quit.
“I am really confident in my job and, as you can see, I will not change anything in how I do things.”
