Temperatures inched upward again Wednesday as a mini heat wave settled over the region, with slight cooling on tap for Thursday and near-normal conditions anticipated by the weekend.

The heat pushed well into the 90s in many areas Wednesdays, which forecasters said would be the peak of the small heat wave.

National Weather Service forecasters said only slight cooling was anticipated for Thursday, but heat advisories that had been expected to continue until Thursday night in the Santa Monica Mountains Recreational area, Calabasas, Agoura Hills, San Fernando Valley, Santa Clarita Valley, San Gabriel Valley and Los Angeles County coastal area stretching to downtown Los Angeles were instead allowed to expire at 5 p.m. Wednesday.
