A LUCKY gearhead has just nabbed a classic car from 1962 for a jaw-dropping $2,422 – a fraction of what similar models usually sell for.

Despite getting a flashy red and white makeover and only having 31,800 miles on the clock, the Chevrolet went for bargain-basement cash.

Car-lovers will be green with envy after getting a look at the 1962 Chevrolet Corvair Club Coupe that’s finished with gorgeous red and white detailing.

The model, which is known for sharing parts with the Corvette, was built across several US factories, plus Canada, Mexico, and other countries.

It features a rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive setup and unibody construction, and has a powerful 3-speed manual transmission.

The owner already started bringing the model up to speed by installing electric wipers, dual sun visors, a heater, and 13-inch steel wheels with hubcaps.

But the key details of the car, like its air-cooled engine, remain comfortably intact.

In today’s market, a Corvair from 1962 typically sells for over $13,000.

The priciest one sold in the last five years went for $33,000.

But this particular car, auctioned May 19, 2025, on Cars&Bids, barely scraped past $2,400.

A closer look at the listing will reveal why the buyer may have gotten such a good deal.

The model is far from perfect, showing signs of wear and tear across its white paint and red interior, Auto Evolution reported.

There are chips, scratches, and worn seals on the windows.

The wheels are scratched, the upholstery torn, and the vinyl flooring damaged.

Rust is visible in some areas, while oil leaks around the differential.

Mechanical issues include a clutch that needs fixing and an engine that idles roughly until warmed up.

The radio isn’t working either.

It runs on a rear-mounted 2.4L flat-six engine rated at 80 hp.

Power goes through a 3-speed manual transmission to the rear wheels.

Tips on buying a used car

When looking to buy a used car, U.S. News & World Report experts have a few tips before walking onto the sales lot.

Set a realistic budget. Some cars are more expensive to insure and register than others depending on engine type, body style, weight, and the amount of doors. Before being swindled by a crafty salesman, it’s important to know what you can and can’t afford. Researching what car would fit best into your lifestyle can save a lot of time. Would a sedan work better for your garage or narrow street? Would a truck meet hauling or towing needs? Knowing what suits your needs can narrow down your options. Look into certified pre-owned cars. Certified pre-owned cars are backed by the manufacturer and come with comprehensive warranties at affordable prices. Some manufacturers have better deals on CPO cars, so research diligently. Not all financing options are created equal. Depending on where you look to finance, if that’s on the table, be very careful about who you finance with. Your best option would be to get preapproved by your bank before going in to give you an idea of what rates are affordable, and to give a dealership incentive to meet or beat those rates. Consider a used car inspection. Depending on where you’re buying a vehicle from, you can opt to pay roughly $200 for a used car inspection to have key components examined by an expert. Consider a vehicle history report. When things get close to signing, buying a vehicle history report based on the VIN can help clarify the previous owners, maintenance records (if it was taken to a dealership), title status, and more.

It also features an aftermarket tachometer and holds a clean California title.

Recent maintenance involved cleaning the fuel lines and swapping the fuel pump last fall.

Oil was changed and the carburetors were rebuilt in 2023, with tires replaced the year before.

The seller owned the car since January 2022 and added only minimal miles.

A new battery was also installed during that time.

The new owner gets the car plus spare parts, service records, the owner’s manual, and three sets of keys.
