Brock Lesnar made quick work of his first MMA opponent.

Before joining the UFC in 2008, Lesnar donned the 4oz gloves at Hero’s Dynamite!! USA event.

The Japanese MMA promotion headed to Los Angeles in June 2007 with Lesnar taking on South Korean judoka Kim Min-soo in the main event.

While Lesnar was making his maiden appearance in the sport, Olympic silver medallist Min-soo already had 7 pro MMA bouts (2-5) under his belt.

His experience advantage didn’t prove to have any bearing on the fight, however, as he was dumped on his back within the opening ten seconds.

After securing the early takedown, Lesnar effortlessly passed guard and unleashed a series of punches to his grounded opponent.

Min-soo flopped around like a fish and held on for dear life before eventually tapping to strikes at 69 seconds of the opening stanza.

Submitting to ground and pound is a rare sight in MMA, as was pointed out by commentator Jay Glazer in the immediate aftermath.

“You don’t see a lot of guys tap from ground and pound,” he said.

“Really give up from ground and pound. Usually, guys get knocked out or the referee stops it.

“It shows the brute power of Brock Lesnar.”

Realistically, the undersized and overmatched Min-soo realised where the fight was going and looked for a way out to avoid serious damage.

Lesnar’s destructive display caught the eye of Dana White who signed the WWE superstar to the UFC six months later.

‘The Beast Incarnate’ made his first appearance for MMA’s premier promotion at UFC 81 in February 2008 against Frank Mir.

After an impressive start that saw him bundle Mir to the ground early, Lesnar was locked into a kneebar and forced to tap out after 90 seconds.

Undeterred by the early setback, Lesnar fought on to defeat Randy Couture for the UFC heavyweight title before successfully retaining his strap against Mir in a rematch via second-round TKO.

Following another stoppage victory over Shane Carwin in his second title defence, Lesnar was matched up with one of the all-time great big men, Cain Velasquez.

The Mexican-American weathered an early storm to blitz Lesnar on the canvas with some heavy ground and pound, thus ending his title reign once and for all.

Lesnar returned to the Octagon one year later but was quickly dispatched by Alistair Overeem, leading to a five-year hiatus.

He made his long-awaited comeback in July 2016 against Mark Hunt at UFC 200, and although he was initially declared the victor via unanimous decision, the result was later overturned when it was found he had tested positive for the banned substance clomiphene in a pre-fight drug test.

The South Dakota wrestler hasn’t stepped foot in the cage since.
