Troy Deeney believes it would be ‘great’ if Birmingham and Wrexham became rivals in the Championship next season.
The newly-promoted sides will renew acquaintances after finishing first and second in League One.

Their title-winning campaign secured an immediate return to the Championship.
Meanwhile, Wrexham will be playing at the level for the first time in 43 years following a third consecutive promotion.
However, Deeney believes ‘no one really cares’ about the Red Dragons’ story despite their climb from the National League.
Responding to the claim there is a lot of focus on Phil Parkinson’s side, the former striker told talkSPORT: “No it’s not, it’s only from (the) media. Obviously, trying to get Ryan Reynolds to jump on a podcast or something.
“But no one really cares about Wrexham, so it’s fine. It’s all about us, it’s all about Birmingham City.”
As for a potential rivalry between the two clubs, he said: “I’m trying to make one if I’m being honest with you. Just because I think it’s great.”
Blues were unbeaten across their two League One meetings with Wrexham last season.
After winning 3-1 at St. Andrew’s in September, they played out a 1-1 draw away from home in January.
The first meeting between the two clubs saw Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney, Birmingham shareholder Tom Brady and former England captain David Beckham watch on in the stands.
Deeney hopes to kickstart a rivalry between Blues and Wrexham in the ChampionshipGetty The sides will meet again in the second tier after Wrexham were promoted alongside BirminghamGettyDeeney expects the work the owners have already done to boost both clubs’ chances of continued success in the Championship.
The 36-year-old continued: “In all seriousness, it’s a great story. Birmingham has been, I wouldn’t say a great story. It’s been a case of 15 years of struggling. You get a new investment, passionate.
“Obviously you’ve got the Tom Brady angle. But the investment’s been great.
“You’ve got two juggernauts now that have understood the power of social media, the power of Netflix, Amazon making these documentaries.
“And they’ve just shown that if you get that right and recruit well, you can kick on.
“A lot of people are saying that Blues and Wrexham are throwing money at it, but it’s (not) easy. I’ve been at clubs where you throw money at it and it doesn’t work.
“When we had our highest paid squad at Watford and our most talented players, we got relegated. So it’s not as easy as just flinging some money at it. And both of them have done really well.”
However, he expects his old side will finish higher in the table, admitting: “I think Wrexham will struggle more than Birmingham going into the Championship.
“And what I mean by that is how it’s currently set up. They play a very deliberate way, a 5-3-2, getting loads of crosses into the box. I think a lot of Championship teams are comfortable with that.
“I just don’t know whether they can tweak it and do what needs to be done in terms of getting into the playoffs.
“But they have money and they’ve shown that every step of the way they can adjust. So Wrexham have been great, but we’re better.”
The boyhood Blues fan spent two years at St. Andrew’s between 2021 and 2023 after leaving Watford.
During that time, he scored 11 goals in 56 appearances as they finished 20th and 17th in the Championship.
