'Man Up' (2015)

Man Up features Simon Pegg and Lake Bell as a potential couple, Jack and Nancy, who meet during a blind date. The twist is that Nancy wasn't supposed to be Jack's date, and he only met her because he confused her for his actual date, Jessica (Ophelia Lovibond).

Nancy enjoys herself so much that she doesn't reveal that Jack made a mistake, and that may start off their connection on a bad note. He's also got some emotional baggage in the form of his soon-to-be ex-wife, Hilary (Olivia Williams). For her part, Nancy has a stalker named Sean (Rory Kinnear) who threatens to expose her life if she doesn't give him what he wants.

'You've Got Mail' (1998)

Is You've Got Mail a hopelessly dated rom-com that no longer reflects modern romance? Yes, but so was The Shop Around the Corner, which director and co-writer Nora Ephron updated in this re-imagined remake. You've Got Mail may represent the prehistoric era of internet dating, but it's still a great movie with a fantastic leading duo.

While chatting anonymously online, Joe Fox (Tom Hanks) and Kathleen Kelly (Meg Ryan) are practically soulmates who can share everything except their real identities. When they meet in person, it's another story entirely. Joe's the heir to a bookstore empire that's threatening to put Kathleen's small bookstore out of business. They have a real mutual enmity going until Joe realizes who Kathleen really is. From there, Joe has to decide how to salvage both of his relationships with Kathleen, if that's even possible.

‘Four Weddings and a Funeral’ (1994)

As promised by the title, Four Weddings and a Funeral, all of those events are seen in the film. This rom-com largely unfolds through the perspective of a British man named Charles (Hugh Grant) and his American acquaintance, Carrie (Andie MacDowell).Over the years, Charles and Carrie keep running into each other at weddings, including their own ceremonies with other partners. But there’s such an undeniable chemistry between them that both Carrie and Charles have to wonder whether they missed an opportunity to be together as a real couple. Four Weddings and a Funeral is streaming on Prime Video.

‘Moonstruck’ (1987)

Cher won an Oscar for Best Actress for her turn as Loretta Castorini in Moonstruck, which was also the film that elevated Nicolas Cage as a leading man. It's a rom-com set in Brooklyn about two lonely souls who first can't stand each other and then fall in love. Sound familiar?

Loretta is a widowed woman who dares to look for love again with Johnny Cammareri (Danny Aiello). As a favor to Johnny, Loretta agrees to invite his estranged brother, Ronny (Cage), to their wedding. The emotional gap between the brothers may be too far to mend, and it won’t be any easier when Loretta cheats on Johnny with Ronny. Loretta may not have a way to go forward without breaking someone’s heart.Moonstruck is streaming on Prime Video.

'Overboard' (1987)

Real-life Hollywood couple Kurt Russell and Goldie Hawn star in Overboard, a film in which Hawn plays an heiress, Joanna Stayton. Joanna has no empathy for the less fortunate, and she stiffs a carpenter, Dean Proffitt (Russell), by refusing to pay him for the work he's always done on her boat. In other words, Joanna is a real nightmare of a person until she falls off her yacht and loses her memory.

Joanna's husband, Grant Stayton III (Edward Herrmann), cares so little about her that he doesn't even bother to look for her. Dean, on the other hand, is looking for some payback by convincing Joanna that she's his wife, Annie, and the mother of his four sons. It may seem like a dire fate for Joanna, but she proves to be adept at running a household, and she's a better mother to the boys than Dean is as a father. She may even be able to help Dean change himself and keep his family together.

Overboard is streaming on Prime Video.

'Sliding Doors' (1998)

A few decades before the word "multiverse" became common in the cinematic lexicon, Sliding Doors presented a look at two parallel timelines that revolved around a young woman named Helen Quilley (Gwyneth Paltrow). If Helen makes her train on time, she'll discover that her boyfriend, Gerry (John Lynch), is seeing Lydia (Jeanne Tripplehorn) on the side. She may even get to reinvent herself and live the life she always wanted.

But if Helen misses her train, Gerry gets away with his cheating, and she may never meet James Hammerton (John Hannah), the man she loves in the other timeline. Some events mirror each other in the possible worlds for Helen, but there are also certain things she can't avoid in either timeline.

‘Annie Hall’ (1977)

Annie Hall is widely considered one of the greatest rom-coms that Woody Allen ever made. We won't argue with that claim as the film, which won Best Picture at the Oscars in 1978, still holds up after all these years.

Allen directed, wrote and starred in the film as Alvy Singer, a neurotic comedian who is desperately in love with the title character, Annie (Diane Keaton). Alvy has a few fatal flaws as a lover, including an inability to stop re-examining his past relationships. He and Annie have good times and bad, but the harder Alvy tries to hold on to her, she pulls further and further away. Annie Hall is streaming on Prime Video.

‘The Cutting Edge’ (1992)

D. B. Sweeney and Moira Kelly bring a smoldering romantic heat to the ice in The Cutting Edge, a cult classic sports rom-com that wasn’t fully appreciated at the time of its release. In 1988, the Olympic dreams of figure skater Kate Moseley (Kelly) and hockey player Doug Dorsey (Sweeney) are dashed one after the other. Years later, Doug is recruited to be Kate’s new figure skating partner in her bid to qualify for the 1992 Winter Olympics. Their initial attempts to work together are like mixing oil and water. But once Kate and Doug get on the same page, the sparks fly on and off the ice.The Cutting Edge is streaming on Prime Video.
