Sorry, just kidding, it's actually a totally made-up organization called "BOGO," the Bureau of Government Oversight, that was cutting costs and cutting staff and closing various government programs. During a protest, one of the BOGO employees was murdered in a drive-by shooting. It seemed like it was part of the protest, but the team eventually found out that she was killed for access to something she was overseeing, not because she was overseeing in general.
It was all wrapped up pretty well with about 10 minutes left in the hour, which allowed the entire Most Wanted gang to gather at Remy (Dylan McDermott) and Abby's (Susan Misner) new bar, The Muster Room, for a few revelations, celebrations, and nice endings for all.
"We got in the writers' room and talked about the series finale," he said of what happened immediately after cancellation. "The writers pitched so many great ideas. And ultimately, I decided I wanted to end the series with a proper goodbye to these characters we all fell in love with, and provide closure. I wanted to end on a note of hope and not despair. Life goes on for the task force and these characters, hence the title of the episode."
"We did discuss [putting someone in danger]. But ultimately decided it felt false to have a cliffhanger in a series finale," Hudgins said. "Most Wanted is over, unfortunately, and we wanted a proper goodbye for all our loyal fans. Honestly, I had the series ending of M*A*S*H in mind in a way."
In the end, Remy celebrated his 58th birthday by announcing his retirement from the Fugitive Task Force, choosing to bow out now that he's two years past the normal retirement age. In his place, Sheryll (Roxy Sternberg) will now lead the Fugitive Task Force, fully abandoning that DC desk job she was up for earlier this season.
Nina's story had the potential to be the most interesting, since she often appears on FBI alongside partner/baby daddy Scola (John Boyd). But Hudgins said FBI showrunner Mike Weiss told him he could do whatever he wanted.
Hudgins will now be leading the new spinoff series, CIA. But that didn't make Most Wanted's cancellation hurt any less.
