The University of Northern Colorado baseball team couldn’t hold a 6-run lead in its season finale Saturday afternoon, losing to St. Thomas 16-7 in a Summit League game at Jackson Field in Greeley.
The Bears scored six runs in the bottom of the first inning, but surrendered 12 runs in the middle innings to drop the three-game series on senior day. The teams split the first two games of the series. UNC beat the Tommies 16-10 in the opener Thursday. St. Thomas won 11-2 Friday.
Craig Kenny hit a three-run home run in the six-run first inning Saturday for UNC, and finished the game with two hits. Jake King had a base hit and two RBI. Carter Monda was 2 for 5 at the plate with an RBI. Brandon Sanchez added a double for the Bears.

The Tommies scored the six runs on six hits, highlighted by Brigs Richartz’s three-run home run.
UNC ended the year with a 9-21 record in the Summit League and 18-33 overall. The Bears finished sixth in the six-team Summit League and did not qualify for the four-team league tournament.
Despite winning the regular-season title, St. Thomas is not eligible to play in the league tournament as the program continues its transition to the Division I level.
The double-elimination Summit League Tournament begins Wednesday and runs through Saturday in Omaha, Nebraska. The University of Nebraska Omaha is the tournament host.
Defending tournament champion Oral Roberts is the top seed for the 21st time in program history. North Dakota State is the second seed, followed by South Dakota State and Omaha.
