Bhubaneswar: BJD President and Leader of Opposition in Odisha Assembly Naveen Patnaik expressed profound grief over the passing of renowned astrophysicist and Padma Vibhushan awardee Dr. Jayant Narlikar.
In a statement, Naveen said, “Deeply saddened to learn about the passing away of Padma Vibhushan Awardee astrophysicist and Kalinga Award winner Dr Jayant Narlikar. He was a widely admired science communicator and played an instrumental role in popularising science in the country. My thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and followers. Om Shanti”.
Dr Jayant Vishnu Narlikar, a towering figure in Indian science, passed away in Pune on Tuesday. He was 87.
Dr Narlikar was widely known for his pioneering contributions to cosmology, his efforts to popularise science, and for setting up premier research institutions in the country. He was honored by UNESCO in 1996 with the Kalinga Award for popular science works.
