A MAJOR US airline has planned to use a groundbreaking technology to delay its flights – which will help travelers.
American Airlines has a forecasted a busy summer – with over 715,000 flights booked between May 16 and September 2.

The airliner is now setting its sights on a new technology which will help take away anxiety from connecting passengers.
American Airlines announced: “If the airline determines it can delay the flight without any impact on the airline’s schedule, we will propose a short hold to get those connecting customers onboard.”
They added that this technology would first take off at the Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport hub in Texas.
It will identify “departing flights with connecting customers who might miss their flight“.
But it’s currently unclear how long planes might be delayed for, or if there will be any impact on fellow flyers.
To help them implement this change, a new technology will help “automate and enhance existing processes to hold certain connecting flights”.
They said that this new introduction can “help even more customers make their connections and get to their final destinations”.
Following the first launch, American Airlines will then look to expand the test to Charlotte Douglas International Airport in North Carolina.
This will be followed by a string of other hubs over the summer holidays.
Chief customer officer at American Airlines Heather Garboden said: “Expectations are high when customers are traveling for their hard-earned summer vacations.”
Over the long weekend in summer, a whopping 45 million Americans are set to travel at least 50 miles from their home, according to AAA.
3.6 million are estimated to be flying to their destinations – a 2 per cent increase from last year, AAA said.
Garboden added: “Whether it’s our redesigned app, improvements to our boarding process or other new technology across the operation, we are excited for customers to have a new and improved experience traveling with us this summer.”
Last Christmas, an American Airlines system outage saw flights grounded for thousands of passengers, sparking widespread Christmas Eve travel chaos.
Passengers across the nation demanded answers from the carrier as some were being told to wait in boarding areas while others were ordered to de-plane aircraft.
An American Airlines representative told The U.S. Sun that a technical issue impacted all flights.
“A vendor technology issue briefly affected flights this morning. That issue has been resolved and flights have resumed,” a spokesperson said.
