Both players were in good spirits as they interacted with the fans inside the arena during the opening leg.

Bristow kickstarted their antics after hitting a 180 to the delight of the audience.

The Crafty Cockney immediately turned to Taylor before planting a kiss on his opponent.

Taylor took it well as he laughed and smiled in response before composing himself on the oche.

Despite the kiss, he went on to win the leg by pinning a double six.

However, his hopes of another kiss were dashed by Bristow, who backed away when Taylor turned towards him with his arms outstretched.

The 16-time world champion laughed off the rejection as the pair continued their antics.

Bristow once again began the following leg with back-to-back triple 20s.

After each dart landed he turned to the crowd to count the 60 score but missed out on another maximum.

Taylor’s response saw him score just one with his first dart, prompting a sarcastic response.

The darts legend turned to count the score with his finger raised as the light-hearted affair continued.

Bristow and Taylor enjoyed an exhilarating rivalry during their professional careers.

As well as being two of the world’s best players, the pair were also good friends away from the oche.

Taylor hailed Bristow after his death aged 60 in 2018 as he highlighted the magnitude of their friendship.

He told the PDC: “Eric was like a brother to me – I loved him. Quite simply I owe him everything.

“I wouldn’t have achieved what I did without him being a mentor and sponsoring me in the early days. I couldn’t afford to go to Rhyl let alone Canada or Las Vegas to play darts!

“Probably his biggest influence on me was the winning mentality. Like my mum and dad, he was very strict with me, he didn’t want to talk to me unless I’d won an event.

“I would ring him up and say I’d made the semi-final or lost the final and he’d shout at me, ‘Only ring me when you’ve won’ and slam the phone down.

“But that gave me the drive and hunger to succeed and I needed that at the time.

“That mentality is his legacy, he started it, made me like it and now the standard will continue to go up because of him.”

Taylor had won the first of his record 16 world titles against Bristow in 1990 by beating him 6-1 at Lakeside.

It would be their only meeting in a World Championship final, with Bristow’s five triumphs all coming between 1980 and 1986.
