The Pittsboro Police Department says a pedestrian was killed early Monday morning in a motor vehicle accident near the intersection of Hillsboro Street and Park Drive, just north of downtown.
Police say Christopher Burns of Vass, N.C. was walking in the southbound lane of Hillsboro Street when he was struck by a vehicle at approximately 4:45 a.m. Emergency personnel and officers initiated life-saving measures upon their arrival, but Burns succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The department says it does not anticipate charges for the driver involved in the accident. There are no sidewalks on either side of the road at the intersection of Hillsboro Street and Park Drive.
“Our department extends its sincere condolences to the family and loved ones of the individual involved in this tragic incident,” said Pittsboro police chief Shorty Johnson. “We also recognize the emotional impact events like this have on everyone involved, including the responding officers and the driver.”
The Pittsboro Police Department is investigating the incident.
