The Orange County high school softball rankings for this week, as of Monday, May 19.

Notable this week: El Modena returns to the No. 1 spot following a 7-5 victory against previously top-ranked Rosary in the second round of the CIF-SS Division 1 playoffs. The Vanguards opened the postseason with a 9-5 win against Pacifica. El Modena was ranked No. 1 in March. … JSerra climbs one spot to No. 9 after advancing to the Division 2 quarterfinals.

SOFTBALL TOP 25

(Records through Sunday, May 18)

1. El Modena (20-8): The Vanguards travel to Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks on Wednesday as the county’s lone team in the Division 1 quarterfinals.

2. Rosary (26-3-1): Ava Phillips won 20 games and Jenna Caldera hit .552 to help lead the Royals.

3. Orange Lutheran (22-6): Kai Minor hit .500 with 23 extra-base hits for the Lancers, who were upset by Notre Dame in the first round of the Division 1 playoffs.

4. Fullerton (21-8): Katelynn Mathews went 15-3 with a 1.27 ERA for the Indians, who lost to Roosevelt 1-0 in the first round of the Division 1 playoffs.

5. Mater Dei (16-12-1): The Monarchs fell at Chino Hills 8-1 in the first round of the Division 1 playoffs.

6. Santa Margarita (20-9-1): Payton Kennedy’s power hitting has helped the Eagles reach the Division 2 quarterfinals against Ganesha on Wednesday.

7. Cypress (19-10): The Centurions played their second consecutive nine-inning game in a 5-4 loss at El Segundo in the first round of the Division 1 playoffs.

8. Pacifica (15-12): The Mariners’ 9-5 loss against El Modena marked their first exit in the opening round of the playoffs since 2005.

9. JSerra (17-13): Liliana Escobar has earned two victories in the Division 2 playoffs for the Lions, who play at Palos Verdes in the Division 2 quarterfinals on Wednesday.
