Aliyah Boston wasn’t doing an acting job in the postgame press conference for reporters. The former South Carolina basketball star actually didn’t know she was the one who got the technical foul on Saturday in the aftermath of the latest Caitlin Clark-Angel Reese confrontation.
During the third quarter, with Clark’s Indiana Fever having their way with Reese’s Chicago Sky in the WNBA season opener, Clark got in Reese’s way on a rebound putback attempt. Reese took exception to Clark pushing her to the floor, and she started walking at Clark after getting up.
Reese and Clark have been getting in each other’s way, so to speak, since their showdown in the 2023 national title game when Reese starred for LSU and Clark starred for Iowa. Reese won that battle, by the way, and the 2 stars have continued their rivalry in the WNBA. It was on display again on Saturday in front of a national TV audience, and when the Clark-Reese incident happened in the 3rd quarter on Saturday, Boston was trying to be the peacekeeper in trying to hold Reese back when she walked toward Clark.
The officials were being extra cautious at this point, though, and they gave Boston and Reese offsetting technical fouls for their reactions to the play. Then came the postgame press conference and Boston’s genuinely shocked reaction when told that she was the one who received the technical foul.

— WISH-TV News (@WISHNews8) May 17, 2025After Boston’s reaction to reporters, Clark wanted to be the peacekeeper herself in explaining to reporters that she meant nothing malicious by the play toward Reese. All of it provided some riveting theater to the WNBA’s season-opening weekend.
