The Colorado Department of Education has named four Greeley-Evans District 6 schools as Centers of Excellence.

The department hosted a special ceremony Friday at the CSU Spur Complex in Denver to honor student achievement and growth at 71 school districts and 346 schools in Colorado, according to a District 6 news release.

In District 6, Centennial Elementary School, Billie Martinez Elementary School, Brentwood Middle School and Prairie Heights Middle School earned the Centers of Excellence Award.

The award recognizes schools that demonstrate consistently high student academic growth despite having a large at-risk student population, the release said.

“These awards celebrate schools and districts that are achieving results through creativity, determination and a relentless focus on students,” Colorado Education Commissioner Susana Córdova said in the release.

Eligible schools must have at least 75% of their student populations designated as at-risk, while the median growth percentiles in English language arts, math and English language proficiency must meet or exceed 55, according to the release.

The Colorado Department of Education recognized 10 schools with this award in 2023 and 17 schools in 2024.

The Centers of Excellence achievement represents the hard work happening in schools through personalized learning, excellent instructional practices and support for all students, District 6 Superintendent Deirdre Pilch said in the release.

“We are proud to see these four schools recognized for their hard work and dedication,” Pilch added. “They are all committed to student achievement and providing opportunities for all students to learn and thrive.”
