Two small brush fires erupted Friday on the grounds of Camp Pendleton, but burned far from any structures, officials said.

The blazes in the northwestern reaches of the Marine base were reported around midday, but “deep” in training areas, said Capt. James Sartain, a Camp Pendleton spokesman.

As of early afternoon, one of the fires had burned about five acres and the other roughly an acre and a half, according to the wildfire-information service Watch Duty.

“There is no impact or anticipated impact to the installation or personnel at this time,” Sartain said at 1:30 p.m.
