BEN Johnson is showing support for his young quarterback despite a bombshell report.
Caleb Williams reportedly tried to avoid being drafted by the Chicago Bears before accepting his fate.
APReports revealed that Caleb Williams tried to avoid being drafted by the Bears[/caption] APBears head coach Ben Johnson is supporting Williams even after the reports[/caption]According to Seth Wickersham, Williams and his father were so scared by being drafted to the Bears that they considered legal action to bypass the NFL Draft.
They even considered having Williams play a season in the UFL before going to the NFL.
In the end, Williams was drafted at No. 1 by the Bears and his fears came true when the team finished with a 5-12 record despite a 4-2 start.
However, Wickersham’s upcoming book also revealed just how little help Williams got in his rookie season.
He reportedly watched film alone with no coaching or leadership from head coach Matt Eberflus or offensive coordinator Shane Waldron.
New head coach Ben Johnson is going to change that.
The Bears landed this year’s top head coaching candidate in the offseason and it is now his job to bring the franchise back into contention.
However, his first job is to put out the fire that is Williams’ shocking comments about the team.
Johnson sat down with Colin Cowherd to discuss these claims and had nothing but good things to say about Williams.
“I see this as, what a great opportunity we have to do something that has really never been done,” Johnson said.
“There hasn’t been a 4,000 yard passer here in this franchise and I think Caleb’s going to be the first one.
“And one of many years, many seasons to come where he’s able to accomplish that feat.
“I see a chance for greatness here for him. He’s been communicated that way and he feels the same way.
“I don’t know what’s gone on prior to him joining the organization but he is very proud to be a Chicago Bear.
