An urgent warning has been issued by lotto bosses as an anonymous Powerball player is still sitting on a $1 million ticketGettyLottery chiefs often find themselves in a scramble to locate the person who just won a cash prize.
For whatever reason, Americans can be sometimes hesitant to come forward and take the cash they have won.
This could be because they lose the slip, or do not check the numbers.
Either way, it’s happened again, and this time a massive $1 million is on the line.
WSAZ reports that chiefs from the West Virginia Lottery are hunting for the ticket that was purchased on May 10, 2025.
It was purchased at the popular casino Mardi Gras Casino located in Cross Lanes in Charleston.
It matched all five numbers but not the Powerball, and the person did not purchase the Powerplay option.
For this draw, the winning numbers were 20, 28, 39, 42 and the Powerball was 13.
Prizes can be claimed in a few ways, primarily by returning to the place where you bought the ticket.
Cash sums won over $600 can be claimed at some lottery offices.
The mystery player is encouraged to come forward as quickly as possible, as they have anywhere from 90 days to a year to claim.
The deadline is usually found on the back of the ticket itself.

The US Sun also reported on a separate hunt taking place right now for a Powerball player down in Florida.
The unknown ticket holder has a few days left left to claim the $52,000 prize.
May 24 is the final deadline for the player, who bought the slip at a gas station in Tampa on November 25, 2024.
Lucky lottery numbers - fact or fiction?
The U.S. Sun spoke exclusively with professor of mathematics at Davidson College, Tim Chartier, who revealed the truth behind lucky numbers.
Scooping up a jackpot prize in a lottery game such as Powerball or Mega Millions involves correctly guessing a series of numbers.
Many players swear by certain numbers, sticking with digits such as birthdays, anniversaries, or ages – but do these numbers statistically carry the luck that players believe they do?
According to Chartier, they do.
“I think a number is lucky if you have fun playing it and it improves your experience of winning,” he said.
“The big lotteries are, statistically speaking, a chance to dream of being a multi-millionaire or even billionaire. If playing a certain number heightens that experience, then yes!”
However, the lottery expert clarified that aside from the feel-good implications of playing your “lucky numbers,” no number is truly lucky when it comes to the lottery.
“All numbers are equally likely,” said Chartier.
He explained that even though all numbers are equally likely, some may seem to appear more often.
For example, rolling a six-sided die six times does not guarantee that you will roll each number exactly once.
If the player does not come forward, the prize will be lost to them.
There are other prizes in Florida that need to be claimed, too.
It was bought in a Florida 7-Eleven – and pays out a whopping $59,594.
The address was listed as 1552 7-Eleven #38321 9401 49th Street North, Pinellas Park.
The winner has until June 2 to come forward after they bought the ticket from the one of the popular convenience stores.
