Manny Pacquiao’s addition to the WBC rankings has been criticised by promoter Frank Warren.
Pacquiao has not boxed professionally since losing to Yordenis Ugas in 2021, subsequently deciding to focus on his political career afterwards.
Warren is uncertain Pacquiao should be fighting for a world title at 46The Filipino legend had a legendary career but is now 46 years old and far from his prime years.
He returned and struggled massively in an exhibition with Rukiya Anpo last year.
But he has defied calls to leave his career in the past, and has agreed a deal to fight Mario Barrios in a full comeback fight for the WBC welterweight world title on July 19.
As a result, the WBC have decided to relist Pacquiao in the world rankings, where he incredibly finds himself at No.5.
There has been significant backlash in the boxing fraternity, and now promoter Frank Warren admits the sport has been tainted by the change.
He said on talkSPORT’s White & Jordan: “It’s not boxing doing it, it’s the governing body.
“That rests with them, George Foreman came back and won the title at 50 years old.
“You come in and test the waters, going straight into a world title fight, I don’t understand that.
“For me it doesn’t sit well with me for the sport. I’ve got to be honest, I don’t agree with it.
“There was talk of Wladimir Klitschko, but these guys are well past their sell-by date, that is the truth.

“Pacquiao is a legend of the sport, but I don’t know why they want to do it.
“We are getting brilliant fights, we don’t need to rehash someone who is 46 and didn’t look great in his last fight.”
