Isaac Bryan’s war on private firefighters ...Middle East

News by : (The Orange County Register) -

Assemblyman Isaac Bryan, D-Culver City, isn’t content with the fact that the private firefighters hired by businessman Rick Caruso did such a great job in protecting property during the Palisades Fire.

Clearly, the excellent work of the private firefighters bothered the state firefighter union, which works hard to maintain the fiction that highly-paid firefighters with lucrative pensions and benefits are the only ones who can put out fires.

Accordingly, Bryan, who according to CalMatters has taken money from the state firefighters unions and votes 96% of the time in line with them, carried legislation which in its original form sought to outright obstruct the ability of private firefighters to do their jobs.

In its original form, Assembly Bill 1075 sought to instruct the state to “develop regulations prohibiting privately contracted firefighters from hooking up their equipment to public water sources.” The chief argument in favor was the implication that maybe the presence of private firefighters using water might have disrupted the fire response.

However, as Politico reported in February when the bill was introduced, there was no clear indication that the private firefighters actually “hampered the city’s response to the Palisades Fire that destroyed thousands of homes.”

And over time, the bill was amended to require the state to draw up regulations  “prohibiting privately contracted private fire prevention resources from hooking up their equipment to public water sources, unless approved by incident command or the authority having jurisdiction over the active fire incident.”

Along with the added verbiage, the bill comically strikes the reference to “privately contracted firefighters” and changes it to “privately contracted private fire prevention resources.” One can only conclude this was to spare the feelings of government firefighters.

The bill, incidentally, was approved 75 to 2, with only two Republicans having the decency to oppose it. Those being San Diego Asm. Carl DeMaio and Northern California Asm. James Gallagher. Most Republican politicians, it must be remembered, set aside their dignity when it comes to the interests of “public safety” unions.

So it goes.
