A CLASSIC Ford from the 1960s with a very rare feature has been pulled from a junkyard – with a surprise hiding underneath.

The short-lived, produced from 1960 to 1961, had been sitting by the side of the road for decades under full exposure to the elements until it was discovered.

The car in question is the Ford Starliner, a hardtop model that was part of Ford’s Galaxie Special Series.

Known for its aerodynamic fastback roof and thin pillars, it was popular with NASCAR racers at the time – and today it’s considered rare and highly sought-after.

Incredibly, one was recently discovered abandoned on an Indian reservation in Grandview, Washington.

According to YouTube‘s FullSizeFord – who decided to purchase the Starliner after a brief chat with the caretaker – the original owner of the car had passed away and the locals were planning to scrap it.

After some 30 years off the road – according to its 1995 title – it shows severe weathering – although the hardtop is still in one piece.

The paint is also badly damaged and the body panels show some signs of rust, but the sheet metal is seemingly still intact.

But perhaps the coolest surprise was under the metallic blue paint, as apparently the Starliner had started out with Orchid Gray paint – a sort of light purple.

The hardtop was repainted, but the previous owner did not remove the old paint – and it seems the hue is rare with only a handful of Orchid Gray models still around.

This comes as another YouTuber recently found a vintage Ford Mustang from 1968 in a barn – where it had sat for some 35 years.

Pole Barn Garage discovered the iconic ride and spent $3,000 to purchase the vintage vehicle and restore it to its former glory.

The first thing he did was hose down the vehicle and clear out its contents which included a spare tire, old tools, and antifreeze.

The YouTuber had to replace or upgrade a bunch of old parts, including the car’s radiator, water pump, fuel lines, tank, and brakes.

“The hood hinges are totally smoked and broken,” he said in the video.

He also upgraded the Mustang’s old two-barrel carburetor to a new, shiny four-barrel one.

“When it’s all said and done, you have really mediocre sports car that isn’t good at anything,” the YouTuber joked. “But it is a Mustang.”

What’s more shocking was that after 35 years of sitting in the barn, the vehicle still worked just fine.

After fixing it up, he was able to take the car for a test drive with his wife, and he was shocked at how well it rode.

Five steps for restoring a car

Restoring a car can be a massive undertaking. Here's a simpler way to think about the process as a whole:

Plan This includes setting a budget, preparing a work area, researching parts, and establishing a timeline to get the work done. Strip the vehicle This involves disassembling the vehicle and assessing the condition of the parts being removed. Bodywork This means stripping the paint and repairing any rust and dents, followed by repainting. Engine restoration This involves restoring a car’s power – including engine repairs. Rebuild After reassembling and detailing the car, all that’s left is to take it for a test drive.
