All ten Indian Premier League franchises will be allowed to rope in temporary replacement players for the final leg of the 2025 season, but they won't be allowed to retain those players for the next season.
The ongoing season of the Indian Premier League will resume on May 17 after a one-week suspension due to the cross-border tensions between India and Pakistan.
Due to the suspension of seven days, BCCI has been forced to extend the window of the marquee T20 league, and now it clashes with the international calendar.
Some franchises don't have backups in their squad, and they will have to rope in replacement players. According to the original rule, teams can sign replacements in the event of illness or injury, provided it occurs during or before their 12th match of the season. However, the rule has been changed due to the extraordinary situation that occurred in IPL 2025.
IPL 2025 replacement rules "reassessed"
"Given the non-availability of certain foreign players due to national commitments or personal reasons or any injury or illness, Temporary Replacement Players will be allowed until the conclusion of this tournament," the league said as quoted by ESPNCricinfo.
Also, the players who came in as replacements before the 7-day suspension will remain eligible for retention.
CSK, KKR players' availability confirmed
"All CSK foreign players, barring Jamie Overton, are expected to join the squad ahead of IPL resumption."
Quinton de Kock is set to rejoin the team on Thursday, while Spencer Johnson, Andre Russell, and Sunil Narine are available for selection for the rest of the season.
