(KRON) -- “Our commitment to finding Elaine has not wavered,” the San Mateo County Sheriff’s Office told the public on Monday as the search for a missing 79-year-old hiker with dementia neared the two-week mark. Margaret “Elaine” McKinley was last seen on May 1 at Windy Hill Open Space Preserve in San Mateo County before becoming separated from her family along the Lost Trail.
More than 500 specialized search and rescue volunteers, in addition to law enforcement agencies, have searched for McKinley since she was reported missing, according to the sheriff’s office. The multi-agency search operation moved into a “limited continuous search” phase on May 7 after there were no confirmed sightings of the missing woman.
