The County of Los Angeles Fire Department (LACoFD) hosted its annual East and Central Regional Fire Service Day events that included a day for families at Fire Station 89 in the city of Agoura Hills, on Saturday May 10.

Tatiana Gonzalez, the city’s community services coordinator, said Agoura Hills in partnership with LACoFD “hosted a fantastic Public Safety Day this past weekend that brought the community together for an afternoon of fun, learning and connection. Despite the warm temperatures, residents came out in great spirits, making the event a huge success.”

Agoura Hills Mayor Penny Sylvester and City Councilmember Jeremy Wolf spent time talking with residents, while the crowd watched firefighters send drones into the air — technology used to fight fires. Children enjoyed the day, getting their faces painted, checking out the fire trucks, and squirting water from a firefighter hose.

Gonzalez said that among the day’s biggest draws were the hands-on safety demonstrations. In one demonstration, attendees practiced CPR with Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) volunteers. CERT is a program that trains everyday people to respond to emergencies in their communities, including using CPR, a technique that can save lives while awaiting an ambulance.
