Affidavit: Two people arrested with allegedly more than 200 grams of cocaine, more drugs in Weld jail parking lot ...Saudi Arabia

A man and a woman each face four felony drug charges after police say they allegedly found the two with cocaine, methamphetamine, fentanyl pills and alprazolam pills in a vehicle the two occupied outside the Weld County Jail last month.

Police arrested 44-year-old Luis Holguin and 51-year-old Genevieve Roybal on April 28 after police found most of the drugs in a bag within arm’s reach of both, according to affidavits for both of their arrests.

Around 6:30 a.m. April 28, Weld Sheriff’s Office deputies were patrolling in the Greeley area when they were notified that a flatbed pickup truck associated with Holguin — who police say was wanted on a warrant — had been captured on a license plate reader near M Street and North 25th Avenue.

Deputies spotted the vehicle in the Weld County Jail parking lot and approached the vehicle without activating lights or sirens, according to the affidavit.

The driver opened the door and police say the deputy noticed a burnt straw in the driver’s door pocket and a large flathead screwdriver under the driver’s seat.

The deputy asked whether the man was Luis Holguin — to which he responded he was not, police say. He then gave deputies two different names — neither of which was his real name.

Deputies then spoke with a woman in the back seat, who identified herself as Roybal. She told officers she didn’t know the driver — whom she referred to multiple times as “Luis” — and that he was just giving her a ride to the jail to pick up her boyfriend, according to the affidavit.

Roybal told police the only items in the truck belonging to her were a jewelry container in the passenger seat and a black Guess bag in the back seat, police say. Police say she went inside the jail once she finished speaking with deputies.

After learning the man’s first name, police were able to positively identify him as Luis Holguin, according to the affidavit. Police say Holguin also had a driver’s permit card in his pocket confirming his identity.

After a police K-9 alerted to drugs inside, deputies searched the pickup and say they found more than 200 grams of cocaine, more than 60 grams of fentanyl pills, just less than 14 grams of meth and more than 3 grams of alprazolam pills in the vehicle.

In total, according to the affidavit, police recovered:

224.07 grams of cocaine. 64.94 grams of fentanyl pills. 13.94 grams of meth. 3.27 grams of alprazolam pills.

Police say all four substances tested presumptive positive.

Police found the meth in the passenger door and just over a gram of cocaine in the driver’s seat, according to the affidavits. The rest of the drugs were all found in a camouflage bag in the back seat, as well as a fanny pack that was inside the camo bag, police say.

The camo bag was within reach of both Holguin and Roybal, according to the affidavit.

Deputies retrieved Roybal from inside the jail, and police say she told them she was not sure who owned the camo bag. She again said the only thing she owned in the back seat was the black Guess bag — which police say contained drug paraphernalia.

Holguin later denied the bag being his when questioned at the Weld jail, police say.

Holguin is being held in the Weld jail on $600,000 bond ahead of a preliminary hearing June 10 in Weld District Court.

He faces four counts of intent to distribute a controlled substance — all felonies — as well as a misdemeanor charge for false reporting his name to police, according to Colorado court records.

Roybal faces four counts of intent to distribute a controlled substance, according to Colorado court records. She was released on $40,000 bond May 2 and was arrested on drug possession charges in Adams County shortly after, records show.

She has an appearance on bond in the Weld County case June 10 in Weld District Court.
