Johnstown will host a ribbon cutting Saturday to celebrate the reopening of its Police Department building after renovations were carried out in an attempt to improve operational efficiency and customer service.
The ceremony — at 430 S. Parish Ave. — will start at 10 a.m., out front of the building, followed by public tours, according to a town of Johnstown news release.
The town said the renovations were made possible by a $1 million grant awarded to the town from the Colorado Department of Local Affairs. As part of the renovations, the department added solar panels to the building and modernized key facilities at the station, according to the release.
“We are incredibly proud to welcome the public into our updated facility,” police Chief Jeff Strossner said in the release. “This building reflects our department’s commitment to professionalism, transparency and community partnership. We’re grateful to (the Department of Local Affairs) for recognizing the importance of this project and to all the partners who helped bring it to life.”
The town said members of Town Council, county commissioners and state representatives will be in attendance at the ceremony.
The event also kicks off both Touch-a-Truck Day and Community Shred Day in Johnstown. For Touch-a-Truck Day, children and families can get an up-close experience with public safety and service vehicles. Community Shred Day provides residents a secure way to dispose of confidential documents.
