Incredible footage has emerged of Pope Leo XIV watching the Chicago White Sox at the 2005 World Series.
The new Pontiff, whose birth name is Robert Francis Prevost, became the first American in history to lead the Catholic Church when he was elected at the Vatican on Thursday.

According to John Prevost, the Pope’s other brother, Leo XIV is a White Sox fan.
Footage from two decades ago would appear to back that up, as he was among the crowd at the then-US Cellular Field for Game 1 of the World Series against the Houston Astros.
In a clip that went viral across social media on Friday, Leo XIV can be seen watching the White Sox close out a 5-3 win.
With Chicago two strikes away from a win, the camera switches from the mound to the stands, where the Pope is standing with his team colors.
The moment has been viewed by millions across X in the last 24 hours, with fans quick to comment on the footage.
“Nah this is insane. What are the chances?” one person asked.
“I can’t comprehend. All my life, I heard we will never ever see a Pope from the United States. And now he was at the World Series,” another said.
“Honestly might just be the blessing the White Sox need,” a third joked.
“Incredible discovery,” a fourth concluded, while another person suggested we’re living in a ‘simulation’.

While it appears the White Sox now have one of the most famous fans in the world, their rival Chicago Cubs tried to claim the Pope as their own.
The team also once boasted the ‘brainiest man in baseball’ too.
“Hey, Chicago. He’s a Cubs fan,” a message on a jumbotron at the iconic Wrigley Field read on Thursday.
The Cubs then shared it on X with the caption: “Congratulations to Pope Leo XIV!”
But it soon emerged that the MLB team had made an error.

“Yeah he was never, ever a Cubs fan, I don’t know where that came from,” brother John told WGN news.
“He was always a Sox fan. Our mother was a Cubs fan, our dad was a Cardinals fan. I don’t know where that all came from.”
The White Sox then responded to the apparent confirmation.
“Family always knows best, and it sounds like Pope Leo XIV’s lifelong fandom falls a little closer to 35th and Shields,” the team said in a statement, referencing the location of the team’s ballpark, Rate Field.
“Some things are bigger than baseball, and in this case, we’re glad to have a White Sox fan represented at the Vatican.
“A pinstripes White Sox jersey with his name on it and a hat already are on the way to Rome, and of course, the Pontiff always is welcome at his ballpark.”
With news of a White Sox fan in the Vatican, the team will be hoping for some divine intervention this season.
They currently have a 11-28 record, sitting bottom of the American League Central division, and have not been to the postseason since 2021.
