When asked, he told The i Paper he was reading about a poll released in the aftermath of the Tory wipeout at the local elections, which showed a Boris Johnson comeback is the only way his party can defeat Reform UK.
Most Conservatives are haunted by Johnson’s time in office; his absence from Covid Cobra meetings and what some said was a disregard for pandemic preparedness reports.

Above all, MPs recall his support of MP Chris Pincher following sexual assault allegations – support which set in train the events that led to Johnson’s downfall – and the Partygate scandal.
The rise of Reform
Reform secured 677 seats of approximately 1600 contested in some English local elections last week. The Conservatives lost 676 seats, primarily to the Reform and the Liberal Democrats.
According to the polling by More in Common, the former prime minister is currently the only Conservative politician who could revive the party’s fortunes against Nigel Farage’s turquoise tsunami at the next general election.
“As the Conservatives grapple with their survival, it does seem like Johnson might be part of the answer,” the survey’s author Luke Tryl told The i Paper.
