Former Ole Miss slugger Tim Elko will go down as one of the most memorable players in Rebel baseball history. Now, he’s finally getting his long-awaited call to Major League Baseball.
It was originally reported on Friday evening and has since been relayed through multiple sources that the Chicago White Sox will call Elko up to the MLB level on Saturday. The first baseman is off to a blistering start in Triple-A this season.
Andrew Vaughn, Chicago’s primary first baseman to start the season, is hitting just .186 with a .516 OPS and below -1 bWAR in 36 games this season. Meanwhile, Elko has slashed .348/.431/.670 with 10 home runs in 31 Triple-A games.
Originally a 10th-round pick in the 2022 MLB Draft, Elko did not see Triple-A until the 2024 season. He posted an .833 OPS with 9 home runs and 7 doubles at the level in 48 games last season before his breakout to open 2025.

— White Sox on CHSN (@CHSN_WhiteSox) May 9, 2025Elko delivered a legendary career during his time in Oxford, including finishing the 2021 season on a torn ACL, complete with multiple home runs after the injury. In the 2022 season, he delivered an early home run in the College World Series Finals, where the Rebels won the first 2 games to beat Oklahoma in the best of 3 series.
Elko’s Ole Miss team also has a unique distinction as one of the worst teams to win the College World Series. The Rebels went from the last team in the final field to hoist the trophy at the end.
Now, Elko will try and prove that he belongs at the MLB level to stay.
