Arizona Wildcats guard and former Alabama player Jaden Bradley testified in a murder trial Wednesday that he and a former Crimson Tide teammate, Darius Miles, tried to pull Michael Davis away from a confrontation that is believed to have sparked a deadly shooting in 2023, according to ESPN.
Davis is accused of killing Jamea Harris, a passenger in a car hit by gunfire. Harris’s boyfriend, Cedric Johnson, was also in the car and got in an exchange with Davis that is believed to have led to the shooting.
In a 45-minute testimony, Bradley said he, Davis, Miles and former Alabama star and current Charlotte Hornet Brandon Miller met at The Strip, a Tuscaloosa nightlife district near the University of Alabama campus.
Outside of a bar, David and Johnson began speaking to one another, according to Bradley. Though Bradley said in the trial that there were no threats between the two men, Bradley and Miles tried to pull Davis away from the confrontation.
Bradley, who is not accused of wrongdoing, said that he, Davis and Miles walked back to Bradley’s two-seat Dodge Challenger, but Davis didn’t get in because there was not enough room. Miles eventually left and joined Davis.
Miles, who is charged with capital murder for “aiding and abetting” Davis, is accused of then texting Miller and asking him to bring Miles’ gun.
“I need my joint (gun). A … rl (real life) just got to fakin,” a text from Miles to Miller read. Miller said at trial Thursday that he interpreted that as somebody was trying to threaten Miles.
Bradley said in the trial that he was not aware of Miles asking Miller to bring the weapon. Bradley, who was Miller’s roommate, told the court he did not see shots being fired but heard the gunshots and drove home.
According to The Tuscaloosa News, Miller testified on Thursday that he was almost shot while in his car. He is not accused of any wrongdoing.
Miller said in the trial that he heard Davis ask Miles if the gun was loaded.
At trial, dash cam footage from Miller’s car caught audio of Miller and former Alabama team manager, Cooper Lee, wondering what Davis and Miles were doing. Soon after, shots are heard, and Davis, wearing a ski mask, ran in front of Miller’s car while firing a gun, hitting Miller’s car twice. Miller drove off and parked to determine the extent of the damage to his car.
A gun from off-campus housing matched the shell casing from the shooting scene. Investigators also found a ski mask and clothing at the housing complex that had DNA on them matching Davis.
A lead investigator also recovered a weapon from the car Harris was killed in.
