The cause of death for former Kentucky offensive lineman Ben Christman has been revealed. A spokesperson for the Clark County (Nevada) Coroner’s Office stated that Christman’s death was caused by heart disease (cardiomyopathy) and an irregular heartbeat (cardiac arrhythmia).
UNLV announced on Feb. 12 that Christman was found dead in an off-campus apartment. Christman transferred to UNLV ahead of the 2025 season for Year 5 of his college career.
Our team’s heart is broken to hear of Ben’s passing,” UNLV coach Dan Mullen said in a program release. “Since the day Ben set foot on our campus a month ago, he made the Rebels a better program. Ben was an easy choice for our Leadership Committee as he had earned the immediate respect, admiration and friendship of all his teammates. Our prayers go out to his family and all who knew him. Ben made the world a better place and he will be missed.
Christman began his college career at Ohio State. After 2 seasons with the Buckeyes, Christman transferred to Kentucky for 2 seasons. He missed the 2023 season because of a knee injury but returned in 2024, appearing in all 12 games on special teams for the Wildcats.
We are all at a loss right now hearing about the passing of Ben Christman,” Mark Stoops wrote in a social media post. “He was a player who came in every day and went to work. He was tough as nails on the field but off the field he was a gentle and kind soul. He was loved by all of us and our prayers go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.
Christman was 21.
