Paul Pierce is walking 20 miles to work after promise about Celtics’ Game 2 ...Middle East

Mikal Bridges’ second clutch steal in two games cemented a second 20-point comeback for the New York Knicks to open a 2-0 series lead on Boston late Wednesday. But the physical pain of the loss is arguably going to be felt more in the legs of Celtics great Paul Pierce than any player involved in the series.

Before Game 2 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals, Pierce declared from his cozy studio spot that he would walk to work Thursday if the Celtics lost at home.

“If the Celtics lose Game 2 at home I promise you I’m walking here tomorrow. I’m walking here, 15 miles. In my robe. No shoes on. Barefeet. If the Celtics lose tonight,” he said.

“No shot we losing. No chance. You have a better chance of walking out of the studio and seeing a dinosaur.”

Most of the things Pierce said ended up being wrong. There’s no word of anyone seeing a dinosaur, and the walk is actually closer to 20 miles than 15 after he tapped the addresses into his Google Maps.

Pierce geared up in a robe before daylight Thursday but was wearing shoes. We’ll give him a pass for not including that promise and paying off the rest of it.

Because we can imagine he’s going to be feeling it later today.

“This is crazy dog I can’t believe this. C’s got me out here like this. I’m sweating. So I’m about 4 miles in right now. So I think I got another 16 miles?”

“This is crazy, dog. I can’t believe this — Cs got me out here like this,” Pierce said on a story update posted to his Instagram. “I’m sweating. I’m about, like, four miles in right now. So I think I got like another 16 miles. Walkin’ about an hour and a half right now. I’ll keep y’all updated. Man of my word though.”

This all was while Pierce was still doing some sidewalk cruising and before his path was likely to take him into the San Vicente Mountain Park area.

Pierce, of course, was a Celtics draft pick in 1998 and starred for Boston through 2013, winning the title as NBA Finals MVP in 2008.

How did the Knicks send former Celtics star Paul Pierce on long morning walk to work?

The Associated Press — For the second straight game, the New York Knicks found themselves in a hole the Boston Celtics have rarely let teams out of this season.

The Knicks again found a way — almost the same way, in fact — to pull off the improbable. And now they are two wins away from knocking the defending champions out of the playoffs.

Mikal Bridges sealed another 20-point comeback with his second straight game-ending steal and the Knicks stunned the Celtics again Wednesday night, winning 91-90 for a 2-0 lead in the Eastern Conference semifinals.

“Just finding ways to win,” Bridges said.

Jalen Brunson scored 17 points for New York and made two free throws with 12.7 seconds left for a 91-90 lead. Jayson Tatum then couldn’t get to the rim and Bridges moved in to bat the ball away and recover it.

Bridges also scored all of his 14 points in the fourth quarter. Josh Hart had 23 points and Karl-Anthony Towns finished with 21 points and 17 rebounds for the Knicks, who will host Game 3 on Saturday.

“Going home we realize the opportunity we have. We just have to stay locked in,” Brunson said.

Jaylen Brown and Derrick White scored 20 points apiece for the Celtics, who were 10 for 40 from 3-point range after going 15 for 60 in Game 1.

Tatum was limited to 13 points on 5-for-19 shooting for the Celtics, who went more than eight minutes without a field goal in the fourth quarter. They missed 13 consecutive shots during the stretch.

Teams that win the first two games of a best-of-seven series on the road win the series 85.7% of the time. The Knicks took the opener when Bridges stole the ball away from Brown with a second left in overtime.

“Opportunity to show what we’re made of,” Brown said of a Boston team that swept New York 4-0 in the regular season.

“We’ve got to respond.”

Kristaps Porzingis didn’t start after sitting out the second half of Game 1 with an illness. He came off the bench for just the fifth time in his NBA career and finished with eight points and four rebounds in 14 minutes.
