The Covenant Park playground in Windsor will be closed until further notice after police say a 25-year-old man set a fire Friday morning that severely damaged the playground.
The town said the rest of the park will remain open to the public.
Early Friday morning, Windsor police responded to a fire at the park’s playground, 1401 Fernwood Drive, according to a town Facebook post.
While canvassing the area, police say officers arrested 25-year-old Joshua Davis. He was booked into the Weld County Jail on suspicion of first-degree arson, according to the post.
Windsor police ask anyone who witnessed the incident or has relevant information to contact Detective Leslie Schmidt-Johnson at LSJohnson@Windsor.Gov.
This is the second fire set at a Windsor park in the past two months. Three juveniles were charged late this past month in connection to a fire set March 5 at Main Park, 301 Locust St.
Covenant Park’s playground equipment was upgraded in 2023. Two play structures — one specifically for younger children, one for older — were added. Improvements also included a sensory play area, a zipline track and a climbing net.
