MEGHAN Markle and Prince Harry can’t let go of the Royals and are clinging on for status, experts have claimed.

Not only this, but according to royal pros, Prince Andrew, 65, “keeps trying to edge his way back in”.

On this week’s episode of The Sun’s Royal Exclusive, Royal Editor Matt Wilkinson was joined by Vanity Fair’s Royal Correspondent Katie Nicholl and Public Relations Consultant Mark Borkoski.

During the episode, the royal pros got candid on Meghan, 43, and Harry’s continued use of their HRH titles.

Matt, who has covered the Royal Family for The Sun since March 2020, asked Mark: “Why do you think she’s using her HRH title and clinging on to her Sussex name rather than Markle?”

To this, Mark explained: “Well, it’s clearly social capital. I’m sure her PA uses it to ensure that she gets that top table at a restaurant.

“It will have a huge weight in America to have that kudos of still having that sort of royal aura around her.”

But Mark, a highly acclaimed PR specialist and media industry commentator, then slammed: “It is hypocritical. I’m sure she uses it a lot because it is something of value, particularly in the social circle she moves in.

“It’s not a great look in my estimation.”

In agreement, Katie chimed in: “I think it just poses a bit of a hypocrisy element.

“You’ve attacked this institution many, many times and yet you want to retain all of the perks and privileges of being in that institution, which is, of course, the titles.

“She doesn’t really need to be using the Duchess of Sussex, but of course, that sets her aside from everyone else, including top list, A-list Hollywood celebrities.

“They didn’t have to use those titles. They’ve chosen to do that. She’s chosen to use the HRH title.

“This is a couple that have shown that they will push those parameters as much as they can.

“I think at the Palace, there is a sense that people have to watch because you sort of give them the loaf and they’ll take the entire bakery.”

Following this, Mark stressed: “Of course it adds weight and she knows it adds weight.

This is a power game. That status is so important, because without that status, she is another B-lister in a continent absolutely populated with celebrities

“And it gives that sort of subliminal aura that she still has links with the British Royal Family, which is a very, very, very powerful brand globally, particularly in America.

“If you are disconnected from that, you lose your social capital, you lose your weight in terms of sort of some of these deals that she’s trying to do.

“I’m sure she is using that when it’s important, when she has to land something, you know, to remind the people of the power that she possibly has.

“This is a power game. That status is so important, because without that status, she is another B-lister in a continent absolutely populated with celebrities.”

Why did Prince Harry and Meghan Markle step back as senior working royals?

PRINCE Harry has always wanted out of the Royal Family and the repercussions will be felt for years, an expert has claimed.

The Duke of Sussex has lived in California with his wife Meghan Markle since 2020 after they dramatically quit their jobs as working royals and moved across the pond.

Katie Nicholl, who is Vanity Fair’s royal correspondent, told The Sun’s Royal Exclusive show that Megxit did not come as a surprise to her.

Speaking to The Sun’s Royal Editor Matt Wilkinson, the commentator explained: “Anyone who knows Harry is aware he’s always wanted a way out of the Royal Family.

“He’s said multiple times on the record that he wished he’d never been born a prince.

“I think he really is living the life he wants to now. It’s very, very sad that it’s played out the way it has.”

In a statement made on the Sussexes’ Instagram account as they stepped back in 2020, the pair wrote: “After many months of reflection and internal discussions, we have chosen to make a transition this year in starting to carve out a progressive new role within this institution.

“We intend to step back as ‘senior’ members of the Royal Family and work to become financially independent, while continuing to fully support Her Majesty The Queen.

“It is with your encouragement, particularly over the last few years, that we feel prepared to make this adjustment.

“We now plan to balance our time between the United Kingdom and North America, continuing to honour our duty to The Queen, the Commonwealth, and our patronages.

“This geographic balance will enable us to raise our son with an appreciation for the royal tradition into which he was born, while also providing our family with the space to focus on the next chapter, including the launch of our new charitable entity.”

Mark echoed Meghan’s use of her royal title as “hypocritical”, as he continued: “On one hand you’re attacking the institution, you’re crying into your pillow and the next thing, you are forgetting all that emotion you’ve thrown in and you’re using a title.

“So, yeah, I think it tarnishes it for her, it tarnishes her brand.

“It shows just how they still have to be linked to the royal family to be relevant.”

The royal pros claimed that such titles should be “protected”, as Katie explained: “Those titles are weighted in history and heritage, and they are hugely, hugely important, which is why they’re using them.”

In the same way that Harry and Meghan won’t let go of those HRH titles, he just is clinging on. He needs to let go

Following this, Mark warned: “They absolutely have to be protected.”

Not only this, but the royal experts also claimed that Prince Andrew, who according to experts is ‘hung up on image and grandeur’ is also clinging on tight for status.

Katie acknowledged: “The Palace don’t comment on him now anyway. They’ve completely detached themselves, which I think is very wise. It’s a very clever PR move on their part.

'There is no way back for Prince Andrew', claims PR guru

PRINCE Andrew’s reputation is damaged beyond repair and he will never be able to engineer a return to public life, according to one of Britain’s top PR gurus.

Brand and culture expert Nick Ede, who runs East of Eden PR agency, called the shamed royal “deluded” for thinking he could ever return to royal duties and urged him to give up and ‘enjoy his life’ in exile.

It follows the release of Scoop – a Netflix movie based on the 2019 interview he gave to Newsnight.

Nick said: “There is no way back for him.

“I think you know this perpetual idea that he could still be back. Nobody cares. He hasn’t got fans.

“There’s nobody out there who’s going ‘We want to see Prince Andrew’, not one single person. I think he has to realise that. But I think it’s going to take a long, long time for him to actually understand. It’s very deluded.

“In my opinion, the best thing that he could do is just enjoy his life. He’s got gorgeous daughters. He has a great relationship with Fergie, he has a lovely house.

“Just live a quiet life.”

Reflecting on the interview five years ago – the fallout of which saw Andrew step back from royal duties “for the foreseeable future” – Nick compared the fallout to Frost vs Nixon and said he would have urged him not to do it.

He said: “If I had been advising him, I would say, go quiet, be quiet, just go to ground. You know you’re a prince. Enjoy the life that you lead, but do not open this can of worms, because that’s what it is.

“There was no admission that a relationship with somebody like Epstein was terribly toxic. There was no idea that there were loads of victims of trafficking whose lives were completely ruined by Epstein. He didn’t seem to think that the association he had with that man was anything but positive.

“I think his worst gaffe was obviously being in that interview and agreeing to it in the first place, for not realising that he’s actually going to be interviewed by a very, very good journalist who is going to ask him questions which he might not like.

“But I think what this has done is really shown how archaic Prince Andrew is in his opinions and thoughts.

“Read the room. He’s never read a room at all.”

“I think the King has wanted him to slip quietly into the background for some time.

“I was quite surprised to see him at the Easter service – I know it’s a family occasion, but really the greatest thing that Andrew can do for the royal family is to just disappear, and of course, he won’t do that.”

While Mark recognised: ”He keeps trying to edge his way back in,” Katie observed: “He won’t let go.

“In the same way that Harry and Meghan won’t let go of those HRH titles, he just is clinging on. He needs to let go.”
