COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – A recent analysis of car crash data discovered what the deadliest road is in Ohio and each state across the country.

The Colorado-based Law Firm of Jeremy Rosenthal reviewed fatal car crash data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, finding the deadliest road in each state based on the rate of crashes per mile. Deadly crash data was sourced from 2018 to 2022.

U.S. 40 in Franklin County was named the deadliest road in the Buckeye State. The study found 25 people died in crashes on the road during the four-year period, equating to a fatality rate of 1.96 per mile.

The study also found the top 10 deadliest roads in the country, with no roads in Ohio making the list. Taking the No. 1 spot was State Route 611 in Philadelphia County, Pennsylvania, which had a fatality rate of 3.97 per mile, and a total of 25 deaths over the four year period.

The completed top 10 included:

U.S. 23 in DeKalb County, Georgia South Central Avenue in Los Angeles County, California State Highway 191 in Ector County, Texas State Route 1 in Los Angeles County, California State Highway 3 in Wayne County, Michigan South 16th Street in Maricopa County, Arizona State Highway 41 in Manatee County, Florida State Highway 10 in South Central Connecticut U.S. 41 in Clayton County, Georgia

The analysis found half of the nation’s 10 most dangerous roads were state highways, while three were city streets and two were U.S. highways.

Regional patterns also emerged from the data, with northeastern and southern states showing higher concentrations of dangerous roads, suggesting “regional factors heavily influence road safety,” the study said.
